Fortuna!
(inspired by ‘O Fortuna’ Carl Orff)
Call her Empress
Call her Goddess
She is vague as the moon in the giving & taking of luck
Tempter of men
Betraying their women
To gamble their gold & honor & love on the turn of a card
The wheel spinning
The neon scorning
I’m drunk at the tables & betting the limit, dancing girls flirting
Flare-burst of lightning
Drum-beat of thunder
The derelict storm rushes the gutter I’m tossed in, fallen desolate gambler
Humble and ragged
I stand at her door
With tears in her eyes & gentle of hand she draws me inside to the fire
I pray a last prayer
To the goddess Fortuna
Despise me as vagrant & scandalous lover but hear my plea –
don't take her away from me
(thanks to BlackSoul for directing me to the music.)

"You know I'm Born To Lose/but gamblin's for fools/but that's the way I like it, baby/I ain't gonna live forever"...
I have asked Her for a number of favors over the years. She's been in my corner a great number of times, but Luck be a fickle lady. Part of the rush is the losing. Some folks "learn the lesson" while others seek "multiple chances". Chance is a beautiful thing when the risk is real. It requires something more than a man to win Her. She is the most unpredictable of the Gods, perhaps. Her boon is pure danger...

I know Fortuna! all to well and she is both beguiling and unforgiving. She's caressed me at tables in Vegas and slapped me coldly at tracks in Kentucky ... she's hard to love but I do ...
... Too cool ink John.

Superb interpretation of the Goddess of Fate and the dangers of gambling, gluttony and voluptuousness. We're fortunate that you share this beautiful piece with us!

In the temptress house of cards
between the satin sheets of dice
rolling bets of chance
Your lady luck will be nice
Another great ink John

will only attract men
who have a pillar standing solid
infidelity notwithstanding

Hypnotic and mesmerizing poem, I can just hear the magnificent music in the background crescendoing to unbelievable heights rousing dormant emotions felt inside.
Beautiful John, just beautiful!!

The images in this piece are tragically beautiful. The wording is brilliant and is something for all poets to aspire to such rhetoric.
I think this piece is screaming to be read out aloud. I encourage you, Mr Feddeler.

Terrific job, John, the picture you paint of the seductress tempting us in those damning games of chance.

I added this to my favorites but I seem to have forgotten to leave you a message and tell you how much I loved this. I'm big on mythology or poetry that communicated mythologically and I just think you're a phenomenal writer. So this was perfect.

Re: Fortuna!
This is great. Any chance you would want to see if a favorite choral piece of mine can inspire you in anyway? The subject matter I believe is religious, but the music and voices may evoke all sorts of ideas and thoughts so perhaps you may be inspired to write something on that alone.
