"See those stairs?"
The man asked me
"Of course I do,"
I replied

"Can you see the top?"
He asked me now
"No, I cannot."
Slightly confused

"If you go to the top,"
He said, and paused.
"What?"
Now I'm asking questions..

He raised his cowl,
"Freedom awaits you there"
In a dead serious tone,
"Then I must go."

I walked those stairs
For many years,
And for many years
I was enslaved

By my desire for freedom

When I reached the top,
My years of torture
Were met,with one small headstone.
Where my name, adorned a plaque.
