Spiral Staircase

Withdrawing, descending

Down a spiral staircase

Reflecting shades of grey

Mechanical voices echoing

Off the walls of my fortress

Retreating into myself

I am at rest

In this state of solitude.

The walls blacken

As I reach the depths of my cell

This is where my shadows dwell

Flickering and fading

Just out of sight

I curl myself into a ball and grow spikes

The fight is on

One for my life

Inner turmoil, outside strife

Down the spiral staircase

Cold relief

Feeling nothing

I have peace.
