WHEN ANGELS WEPT
( En Memorium~~12-14-12 )
Within our nation's heart this day,
Death cast its insidious shadow.
In morning's sacred sanctuary of bliss,
The Devil daringly defiled the sanctity of Light.
Into a fragile, fragmented mind,he transported a demon--
To release the reaper's rampage, to execute his will.
In the youthful face of evil incarnate,
Eyes of molten flame glazed...sanity shifted.
From within this vacuous shell,
It demanded purity of righteous blood...
One perfect tender soul exacted--one for each decade doubled.
In minutes of madness, and seconds of sorrow,
Moments of mayhem exploded--glass disintegrated,lives splintered.
Twenty, precious breaths of helpless innocents--
forever stolen....
Twenty, single, special smiles
forever treasured memories....
Twenty, voices clear as silver pixie bells--
forever silenced.
In brilliant beams of radiance golden,
Through the chaos crazed,
The keepers of mortal souls reached
To clasp tiny, trusting hands.
With feathered wings gently sheltering,
Heads bowed in grief inconsolable....
Amid anguish unbearable....
The angels wept this day.
Author's Notes: This poem is dedicated to ALL the victims of the heinous massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School, in Newtown, CT. As the anniversary of this tragic even draws near, may we pause to honor the memories of these precious children,and the adult heroes who sacrificed their own lives, on their behalf.
May they know peace eternal.

It's such a tragic loss when lives are stolen, especially when children and young adults are targeted in such callous acts of violence.

Such a powerful and compelling piece of work, DE. I can't believe I missed this one! It's one of the most beautiful and well-written tributes I've ever read. I just love the style you chose and the way you adapted it to the feeling you wanted to share.

except that your praise serves to honor all those, whose lives that were so tragically taken that horrific morning!
(I needed some way to express all of those intense emotions that seemed to overwhelm me, and creating a tribute became my means of coming to terms with the senseless atrocity).

I was immediately captivated by your words even not knowing the reference point. Such a sad and powerful write gripped me and kept me reading - the velvet glove knock out punch was in the authors note and then the realisation of what it was about made it even more powerful :-)

This was such a horrible, heinous tragedy! Even though this December 14th marks the fifth year, since all those lives were lost, in my mind, and heart, it still remains so painfully raw!! I felt that i needed to honor these individuals--to pay tribute to their lives...in at least some, small way. Thank you, my friend, for your very generous, and gracious comments! They touched me deeply, and i am humbled, grateful, and most appreciative.
