The Devouring Maw

THE TALE OF DEATH AND LIFE PART THREE

Awakening in a place so strange
Like invisible letters on a page
No clue what is above or below
Floating lost in cold limbo

What sort of magic is this?
She can feel the icy claws
Closing in for another caress
Eyes burn from the mists
Hungry and feral locking on
Like vultures of the abyss
Something moves out there
Tentacles entwine in rhyme
Of songs made of despair

Long ago was a joyous dream
Full of loving embrace and licking cream
Now there is only creeping dread
Of evil mystery and threats are said

But where is her dark knight
In this night of nights full of fright?
Dark steeps beyond are prancing
In flights of wicked necromancy

Her heart, it beats
In time with each passing of the reach
The things with claws
Pull to the maw to devour all.

Oh, no, where has the sun gone?
Nothing here but the shadows
Gone are days of fairies and fauns
No magic here but inky fog
Grasping at her torn hem
Snarling like hell’s own dog
A foul breeze blows in air
Bringing the stench of dead
And fills her full of despair.

Crystal tears leak from her eyes
Pouring into loss, born of where hope dies
If she still had life she’d take it now
And accept her crown on her brow.

But from deep within in strength
Born of desperation that lives in each
She lifts her head to the beast
Takes the offering for her to eat

Her face, she grins
The feast begins in nightly fancy of sin
She grasps with claws
Pull to her maw to devour all.
