The Heart of Winter

THE TALE OF DEATH AND LIFE PART TWO

All seemed glorious in nights of light
Full of splendors and secret delights
But too soon a shadow set on the trees
Shivering the branches and
Murdering the leaves.

She lays on a bed of fallen snow
Her perfect skin has lost its glow
Once smooth hands now gone grey
Sets Death before her now to pray.

What horrible will is to fault
For this crime without a cost?
Still she spirals like a fallen star
Descending into holocaust.

Her beauty is still on the forest floor
A goddess of lore, Enraging Death to war.

This plague-ridden place of the ghost
Entice fantasies of the host
Demanding a man to please mourn
Among the crying winds of storm.

Grief, it grips the cold heart of Death
Crushing out the warmth of breath
Visions of her beneath the tree
Lifeless, leaving him of love bereft.

He lashed about in screaming shouts more than he could count
Candles in gloom upon her tomb enforces the doom.

“I have lived as Death
Upon the heads
Of frightened cattle.
Now I walk this path
With my wrath
Bring to the world,
Battle.”

In the deepest heart of winter
White turns red as bodies splinter
And leave them broken on the floor
But still he hungers for more.

The void inside is black and deep
Too empty for bloodlust to reach
What awaits at the bottomless pit?
He becomes a soul sucking leech.
