Love's Tundra

Oh how far we have traveled you and me
rambling deserts and sacred mountain peaks
We relished each entwining so playfully
tracing satin kisses on trembling cheeks
Those early days brimmed sweet with such passion
my only need to bask in your touch
We wore our love like the latest fashion
never imagining we’d lose so much
But alas seasons began to tarnish
we took the gift of Eros for granted
Complacency built up like old varnish
with all romance withered or supplanted
Across this wasteland I see you shiver
while mute I ache for rhymes to deliver
