It's Nothing Love

You come into the room
bringing the heat
and like a little girl

my heart pounds in my chest
painfully aware of your presence
my body aches for a taste of you

feeling sad when you leave
and a bit foolish
for letting you toy with me this way

I want to toss my feelings
into the East River
watch them float away

with the rest of the dead
but like the dead they rise
to the surface

telling on me
my face a give away
murder in the first

killing my emotions
with liquor
an easy out

then comes morning and i'm sober
flooding thoughts of you
strangle and choke

my darkened heart
missing you
standing naked before you

with no guile or guise
no guard or alter ego to protect
evening will descend

when I can drink enough
to pretend for the moment
that I don't care
