The Master and the Mistress

A odd pair strolled along side by side
Down a stone path in the early morning
Each was silent,observing the sleeping earth around them
Finally one turned to the other
Her bright and lively eyes dancing with promises
"Death?"Her voice,golden and tinkling,promised good times to come
"Mhm?"Her dark companion turned dull and weary,though not unkind,eyes to the traveler beside him
"They fear you,these humans."Her voice laced with scorn of the fragile creatures she toyed with.
Death nodded in agreement,a quirky smile gracing corpse pale lips
"And yet they love you."He mused,his words hinting at more.
"Life is beauty,wouldn't you agree?"
Life's temper arose,showing just a hint of the monster this lovely could be
"Life is like a sadistic mistress.Promising love yet dishing out only cruelty...."
Death's voice trailed away and Life leaned in to catch the rest of his words
"In other words,she is,infact a bitch."
Life jerked back as if struck
Death's words lingering like a poisonious mist between the odd pair
"And death?What of you?"
Life asked with a mocking and twisted smile.
How dare death talk like that to one as fair as she?
Life was far superior to Death
For in the minds of the humans they ruled it had always been so.
"Death is a far kinder master.He does not toy with those he embraces."
And with that..the pair parted ways
The sun rose that early morning
Casting a golden light upon a lush earth
Humans awoke,hearts strong and beating for many
Though some walked the pathway with Death
And like many before them
They soon came to see
That Master Death was a far fairer master
Than cruel cruel Mistress Life could ever think to be..
