Only One

Treat me with the utmost respect
You'll go far with me if you do.

That was over forty years ago,
But I needn't have said anything
For he was the gentleman I fell for,
And yes he softened my descent,
Captured in his arms,  setting me
Free, wishing to stay;
So I did, never looking back into the
Void of despair,  heartache.

He gave me my dreams back, though
I picked only one out of many, it wasn't
difficult,  my whole breathing existence
revolved around my thoughts of togetherness.

He went first, this last winter got within him,
I was prepared,  forty years in the making,
He made sure I was, he's not gone, he now
Lives within, my heart beats for two now
until we can walk together once more.
