My Shadow

Shadow

As I sit alone in my pity I recognized a shadow of my past. A tall dark figure of a spook with a long dreaded cloak, a cloak only worn by those who are damned, damned to walk the earth and haunt those who unknowingly walk the path of those who haunt them.
I gaze upon the figure before me, repelled by fear yet drawn by force. My trembling hands, a moistened brow, I sit paralyzed, my eyes desperately seeking comfort in a faceless shadow, searching, yearning to discover the familiarity that draws my soul into the hidden shadow within its hood.
As my mind travels further and further I sense my body growing weaker as each passing moment goes by. I struggle to break free from the hold it has on me, but I cannot.
Finally it releases me... and as if a strong wind hurls me back, I am thrown down upon my knees at the foot of my shadow.
I weep in horror of my demise for I fear the worst is near and my shadow is toying with me, mocking me as though my pain somehow brings it pleasure.
It stops, I notice the years of agony in its hands as it points to the cloak I now wear. Horror stricken I inspect the garb, the stench of the cloak was of doomed souls devoured by their own greed. The worn holes and stains of neglect were easily noticeable.
As the shadow motions for me to rise I feel uneasiness in my stomach. I now stand even with this spirit, my body shaken with fear at it removes its hood to reveal the worst horror imaginable, I stand paralyzed, my eyes frozen to what I see is myself staring back at me, laughing aloud as it fades into a swirl of smoke, leaving me to walk the path of those before me.
