Distant Echos

To touch the soul of another is to lead the blind out of the darkness

As she stands over the sink, looking out her window, she sees nothing out of the ordinary, an old swing set, toys scattered about and fallen leaves across the yard, nothing which would cause concern, except one.

A faint echo, a voice from the past seeking answers.

She wonders why she’s here, where to go, how to get there and the consequences. Who has she become, and at what price. She knows the answers, for she has mulled them over several times over the years. She often dreams of whom she used to be and at times she wishes to be that girl again.

Like many others before her, she has a choice, but at what cost, is her true identity worth the risk? Can she remain content with the knowledge that by holding on the here and now, she may lose herself in the process?

Deception has been known to be an art; some make a living of it, others as a matter of survival. The choices which we make are not always easy and are seldom clear, but they are choices, knowledge in itself can bring comfort.
