It Didn't Last Long
It didn't last long...
...IT!
Was about the length, of my favorite song
If...It was musical
It played along...Starting off, like...
"Simply Beautiful", had just come on
And you & me, inhaling trees
Intently listening, to the great, Al Green
Sing hypothetically, "If I gave you my love...I'd tell you what I'd do..."
As I write...I shake my head, while giggling too
Thinking about what was said, and believing it was true
That, love...is...conditional
And ours ended too soon
In an instant...I witnessed it move
From a place of joy & happiness, to one of pain & gloom
But what can I say?
It didn't last long...
But the stain of it remains, and that's a damn shame
Considering how hard I try to scrub, and wash it all away
This brief experience is determined to stay...Embedded, in the deep recesses of my long memory
Like a bad few minutes, trying to ruin my whole day
I'd gladly exchange forgiveness...For the chance to forget "IT" ever took place
But then again, that would be a waste
Being that I really want to remember
It didn't last long...
...Because it lasted
...ALWAYS...
