My mum and I sometimes listen to piano.

You laughed at my terror,
stood at my peaceful side
and laughed at my deep rooted fear,
and I smiled,
as it unfurled from your innocent unknowing,
I smiled,
as it flew from your two clapping feet,
those that walked the cassette to my bedside tape player,
it's okay.
So many years have passed
but listening to the piano,
the way it challenges my little mind,
I could never be happier than hearing your reaction,
even if it secretly hurts my memory,
it brightens every present thought I have.
So laugh mum, as that horrid bar reaches my ears,
and I shudder pretending that didn't terrify me as a child,
because nothing brings me greater joy,
that hearing you enjoy such music,
it's the easiest way to soften my soul.
