Dawns stretch

Quiet
So quiet
I can hear my internal engine
Kick over from idle to steady
The morning is in its infancy
With the sun's crying rays just
Moments from the tree line.
The cats tired from the nights
Perimeter patrolling, slink in
with their bellies full of bugs
and anything else silly enough
to cross the their path.
The toaster ejected it offering
It's job completed
As I wave the toast around, impatient
For cool texture to accompany the cool
coffee. The cats move to various hiding
Places awaiting to be discovered and put
Out once more
