rain-haired woman {w.Black Velvet Rose}

she walks in the storm and she cries in the rain
it’s been weeks since she’s seen the sun
she knows where the gun hides. she’s resisted
temptation. but maybe she’ll do it tonight.

she’s always been lonely, but never alone
a lover to beat her and punish her heart
he drinks of her tears, then he goes away
but there’s always another to take his place.

through the years she has prayed for the
knowing, the urge to be locked in the arms
of a prince, or a savage. such strange emotions
found with so many different men.

her heart is a gallery of pirates and rogues
access is easy – the door is revolving
how many men must enjoy her, destroy her
till she sees there is no one to love her?

she knows that her mind is an open book
they see the fires that burn from a vacant heart
only to be beaten, broken,  abused
left for the next one to come along.

she feels his heat when he holds her
when he kisses the bruise of her mouth
his profit is the sating of his own desires
he ignores her tears spilling, crystal, like the rain.

she hides her thoughts behind a mask of false
truths, disregarding the adagio of clouded time
she lays with cold steel next to her heart
as the song of the rain falls apart.
