Swamp Creatures

Do you know how it is?
When you see someone
But don’t really see them
Or you meet someone
And get to know them
But don’t really know them

I fell in love once
Well maybe more than once
And at first it was so great
But after a while
Something seemed to happen
And we started to notice things
Little things that were
Really big things

You see, we started
To get to know each other
And at times
The smallest things
Told us so much
Or at least we thought they did
And sometimes just a kiss
Or a look said something

But then at other times
A kiss or a look said everything
And words became informers
On thoughts that were also snitches
And from Sleepless in Seattle
All of a sudden you’ve moved
To a place called Deliverance Country

So as you wade through the swamps
And you try not to think
About the snakes and the alligators
And the smells and mosquitoes
You start to wonder
Whether you might be
One of the snakes or alligators
And ‘they’ might be
Those blood-sucking mosquitoes

Or maybe you’re just another crazy redneck
And so are ‘they’
