walking blues

I have a pair of black on black
Adidas shell tops. Standard
for a dude like me, a slacker
who grew up in the nineties.

Got 'em a bunch of months ago
when I went into town
to make right with an old friend.
Had a few extra bucks, unusual
for a dude like me
who never grew up.

I am an outlaw motorcycle gang
on my kicks, so it's no surprise
that they are completely blown out.

Easy summer living, when done right
doesn't require covered feet
but the moon has been whispering in
that particular mystery that only autumn allows
and I need new shoes.

The second smartest kid
always walks a lot
between the crowd and the crew chief.
