vague thief
the wind will blow at unlocked doors
find the hearth & disturb the embers
the mind distorts the tale of absconded days
redesigns, & makes it pretty
but the heart remembers:
she arrived with an empty bag
& a butterfly tattoo
time made poems, made music
painted the sky inscrutable stars
(what is time but the harbinger of regret)
she left out the back door
her bag was full.
