"These Hands."

I remember this day as clear
as day, clearer than some and
one more memorable than most

It was a day in which my
tempests had assuaged, for now
And cool like the breeze in
the evening after an exceedingly
hot day

But on this particular one I
talked to a man, a man I knew
and worked with
I talked to him like a friend
and closer than most who call
themselves to be that

We talked about life, it's
struggles and its plight
He talked about his opinion
on the subject; its wrongs and
rights and what he felt about
those who claim to have answers
I said little, only offering an ear

I could see the hurt in his eyes and
how the rain and wind had battered
him and could see deep within thru
his lights, into the soul inside,
how it was torn and awry: he had questions
but skepticism, justifiably

He said most people you talk to about
these things act self-righteous and cold
Their lives look different but they're
stand-offish and unapproachable
I told him, I knew and offered him
kindness and showed him the marks on my
arms and neck, proving that I had also
been there and knew his questions and
his pain, but also know that there can
be comfort on this plain

He looked at my tattoos, the presence of
my past and I could see the apprehension
in his face ease and his eyes become a
little less sad and the boldness of his
demeanor changed so that he looked a bit
more accepting

But it give him from that day a new
perspective and myself also because I
know that as I stood there talking to him
I felt from within my heart and out of it
unto him, something go and knew that it was
tangible because I saw his response
simultaneously as the look on his face showed
that it touched his heart

And I believe that it was healing hands that
touched his soul that day NO, not fleshly
ones but more impacting and effective in
every way because what we say we live may not
be effective and may be contradictory in the
least but when we have tangible healing alive
within us then that's what can bring relief

"And a man shall be as an hiding place from the wind, and a covert from the tempest; as rivers of water in a dry place, as the shadow of a great rock in a weary land."
