They sought my eye ( Painting in Walsall Art Gallery)

They sought my eye, the two
naked as the gods intended,
 bright day illuminating
each structured limb and pore
The child, on his mother's thigh
tightly held her arm
smiled upon her breast
his man-hood undisturbed;
saw his mother as she was
loved and lovely.
Venus was in charge
Eros nowhere to be seen.
They asked me look closer
see how they were wrought
his dimple arms,
his love he felt for her.
She in turn
caused me to look again
marvel at the sight,
naked love was never half so sweet.
You may never see this picture
but if you do, or something close,
see them as the artist did
and let him guide your eye.
