Over-Comer
the girl, she hides inside
dozes, but never sleeps
keeps one eye open
frozen and broken
her emotions
rarely spoken; much
the girl, she hides inside
won't dress her best
but conceals her appeal
beauty and desire
to heal the hurt
the girl, she hides inside
fucks, but never makes love
cause every time
she makes the climb
she see's his crime
and the slime he left behind
the girl, she hides inside
is innocent, but shamed
too young to oppose
while he unclothed; was
forced to pose as he
enclosed and disposed her
but
the woman in her
has found inner peace
a new lease of self
a way to decrease the scars
and increase the cure
the woman in her
has found confidence
and a dominance of strength
refuses to be the consequence of him
the woman in her
is no victim nor survivor
but an over-comer
a post war veteran
reverend speaker
against the victimizer
dozes, but never sleeps
keeps one eye open
frozen and broken
her emotions
rarely spoken; much
the girl, she hides inside
won't dress her best
but conceals her appeal
beauty and desire
to heal the hurt
the girl, she hides inside

Amazing to me that we posted a similarly themed piece simultaneously...
While a striking piece of writing (I like the internal rhyme flow) the subject matter is to me the most wretched abuse possible to a person; stealing of innocence.
Thank you for stirring my core through your soulful writing!

Yes I feel we are often in sync in our friendship.
You're right of course. Children should be able to hold on to their innocence for as long as possible. It should never be stolen from them.
Thank you for your intuitive nature and for reading.
I always appreciate seeing your face :)

Rachel, I am touched by this story of rebirth. I am glad you have found inner peace. The 3rd stanza is such well composed sadness. Brava!
