One More Day
“Will you love me in the future?” she asked.
And I said: “No, we have no future together.”
And she began to sob quietly,
breaking my heart
“I do love you,” I said.
“Will you love me today?” she asked.
And I said: “I will love you today
with everything that I am.”
And I wept with joy, my heart
mended for one more day.
And I said: “No, we have no future together.”
And she began to sob quietly,
breaking my heart
“I do love you,” I said.
“Will you love me today?” she asked.
And I said: “I will love you today
with everything that I am.”
And I wept with joy, my heart
mended for one more day.

Bitter-sweet Insight!
Living each day to the fullest....one at a time....being immersed in each single moment of joy---for the future , to any one, is never guaranteed.

Bittersweet, indeed. Today is all we have, the future uncertain. Thank you for commenting.

Is the experience of at least one day of unconditioned love counterbalancing a lifelong of lukewarm relationships. Is it? May be. I really like those poems of yours.

Perhaps lukewarm is better than nothing at all.
The future is uncertain. There may not be a
tomorrow, so why not love today fully?

I fully agree to that! If there'd be someone to share an unforgettable day in your life, you should take the chance. Sometimes you can't because there's someone else belonging to you. Lukewarm but nonetheless loving. What will you do?

Of course?
Roads less traveled
might seem to be more
desirable to explore.
Some certainly are.
Some might be dead ends.
But, traveling the dirt road of life
with someone - just once (or twice) -
may be so satisfying.
Of course, then.

I hope it wasn't too maudlin.
One day is all we ever have,
i.e. until tomorrow.
One day is all we ever have,

Because we never know when love will
leave, no promises guaranteed....
leave, no promises guaranteed....
