"Could you help me make it back."
I stand here in the dark
It's the middle of my night
Feels like my coldest December yet
Welcome to my private Hell, here in this life
The sign-post up ahead says, "Somewhere you
took the wrong way, took the road many have
travelled, now this is what you're to face,"
So could you help me make it back, back to
that place, where I could hold his hand and
look at his face
It's been to long, now this is my song
I had to let him go, let him go for this road
You held him against me and fucked with my mind
But we all know what to expect when a woman gets
that scorned look in her eyes
Said if you couldn't have me, then I couldn't have
him
Not with spoken words but what should it matter, you
kept it in the family and now my cousins raising him
So I stand here my son, looking you in your eyes
I know we shouldn't have to but this is our life
My child I owe you an apology, for not being there
for you to be the man that I should be
And now you're 18 and I hope that you'll see that
the cards dealt have made it this way and one day
forgive me
So could you help me make it back, back to
that place, where I can shake your hand and
look at your face
It's been to long, now this is my song
I had to let you go, go for this road
It's the middle of my night
Feels like my coldest December yet
