Guiding Lights

They used to be called bumper cars
Then changed to Dodgems
Learning to dodge
Sometimes required a bump or two
Unavoidable
As we took our seats
We promised to share the driving
Shaking off the anxieties
Reassuring
Wide eyed and unafraid
Expecting bumps
Along with shared laughter
no racing required
Nice steady pace.
As the press start began to flash
