Image for the poem never again

never again

golden boy born
on martha's vineyard
many years before he
stole my heart
made me his wife
worked on the novel
he was writing
as i proofed each
finished page
for the first
year of our marriage

he aspired to
be another
ernest hemmingway
his talent oozed
from his pores
like booze
on an alcoholic's
body after a
prolonged binge

he was just
as good a lover
as he was a writer
making love to me
just the way
i liked it
whenever i wanted
spending long hours
in bed with me
forever saying
he would never
leave me

his only fault
was abhorring
writer's block
if you could
even call it one
when it hit him
i would watch him
hold his head
in one hand
his blond hair
falling forward
covering his eyes
a sullen look
on his handsome face

he was the
last person
i would ever dream
could take his own life
and why he did
i suppose i will
never know
i loved him more
than life itself
my life would
never be the
same again, no
not then
nor ever again

Note:  This is not a true story and was born in my imagination.
