Narcissist at the bus stop

He said, “You can’t be up yourself
but you can’t degrade yourself either
no one likes pretentious people
… like this chick I helped out
she turned around and called me a paedophile
and just, just… fuck that, that’s just wrong
you don’t call people that.”

“I’m not a narcissist you know
I used to be, but I’m not anymore
‘cause you don’t know you’re a narcissist
until you’re not”
     
“Wow, you’re really beautiful, you know
you have this inner beauty…”

And I had to pause for a second
during his lack of pauses in this one way conversation
to wonder if he’d just called me ugly
and he appeared to be aware enough of my presence
to notice my what-the-fuck look

“I don’t mean it like… I just mean
that you’re really easy to talk to
I was talking with this psychoanalyst friend of mine
and she said genuine people are really hard to find
because people like to lie, you know”

“If we were hypothetically dating
I mean you wouldn’t lie to me would you?
‘Cause no one likes being lied to”

And somewhere between paedophiles
and being told I’ve got wonderful inner beauty
I was angle texting my facebook page
almost begging for someone to save me
from the weirdo at the bus stop
who, along with non-stop talking
was non-stop writing poems in a notebook
in a scrawl I couldn’t understand
because I’m a sucker for striking up conversations
with people with notebooks, always curious
to know if I’ve met a fellow artist

Though this conversation backfired on me
with more talk I lost interest in 10 minutes ago
complete with more “If we were hypothetically dating”
conversation starters that I was hoping would lead
to him asking me out, just so I could tell him I was a lesbian
