Old Oak
Oops! (chagrined smile) I accidently marked this as extreme content...but its not :P enjoy!
Deep in the forest I used to run in all the time,
at the very heart stood the most magnificent oak.
It's bows of leaves stretched on forever,
it's leaves seemingly overseeing the whole world.
It was assuredly the oldest tree in the forest,
but in its age,
its magnificence only had multiplied,
intensified.
I used to cuddle up at the base,
covering my face in its side,
hiding from the world.
I was small then,
hated being home
and would have spent all my time alone
with myself in the arms of the oak.
I looked and saw new saplings growing,
but I smiled sadly, knowing that never
could I sit beneath them.
Why their roots couldn't hold me
and their leaves couldn't shade me.
They fade in comparison to my
age old companion.
Now I have gone back, and again
I am in awe,
enthralled with its aged beauty,
with its quiet, solid, masculine strength.
I give thanks
that such a wonder still exists,
solid and steady,
waiting and ready
for me.
