If You Aim Well You Can Knock Me Off The Soap Box

I will try not to bore with all the details
just reflect the claim some make
that the fights of left versus right
are silly charades and so very fake

That even when Jefferson and Madison
broke from the Federalist after Washington said "enough"
it started a merry-go-round
for they are made of the same stuff

Claiming democracy and the brotherhood of us all
nice sounding but not put into practice by these most noble types
asking citizens to stay with solid colors
while these statesmen paint in stripes

Shall we talk of the Native American reduced to reservations
diseases brought to their knees
pushed further and further
oh how the American presidents loved to tease

Hear about how Pilgrims landed on that old rock
hell reverse it for there was another trend
triangular trade saw people in shackles
bam that rock really landed on them

And if no owner of property the Founders didn't really care
need bodies for guns that could tote
after the skirmish with England was over
it was okay if you still didn't vote

Women had to wait until the 1900s
when suffrage was an unstoppable power
and much has been made of the Civil Rights movement
in some ways we seem be revisiting those hours

For if you look at the demographics of Congressional districts
not much probing required it is ever so clear
white and non-white are segregated
into the two parties the loyalties are steered

From income, to education, to the environment
they thrash at each other and such
but the solutions never are implemented
really they are a status quo bunch

Must confess I had a part in this equation
for many years I wanted so to believe
one party held the virtues I respected
that party died many years ago I now concede

And even now that the donkeys and elephants
talk about immigration they must think we can't recall
when they said all those so called "Free Trade Agreement"
would be so helpful to border crossing for the nations all

So you will excuse me if I doubt the veracity
that the absence of opponents would make everything nice
for in essence what they are doing is called protection
making sure the 99ers don't get a slice
