A KINETIC STILLNESS
out here in these
east beach dunes
in the rain
in the eternal winds
my thoughts sound
different here
than they sound
back in town
in a room
in a house
with a tv on
in the background
to distract me
from any insights
i might otherwise
have possibly had
yet out here
in this naturalness
my feelings
and thoughts
are simple as sand
and as distinctly clear
as the bright pink
of a rosette
spoonbills wings
flapping in blurs
yet easy to see
even in rain
back and forth
from one
salt marsh pond
to another
where they filter
the silty sandy
mud bottoms
with their flat
spoon billed beaks
so patiently
searching for food
all along
amidst the reeds
occaisionally
in the company
of snowy egrets
and great
blue herons
who also
masterfully
stalk along
the same
salty shallows
on long legs
like stems
wading in their
own reflections
in some kind
of silent zen
from their
slow motion
focused steps
they can go
from standing
perfectly still
to striking in
an instant blink
and seem
to almost
every time
come up with
a delicious
live treat
of continued
successful survival
where from
simply observing
them so passively
for a while
out here in
my peaceful flow
harmonious
with the wild
i suddenly
come to see
and quietly realize
that each of us
are only as alert
aware
and as fully alive
as we each
choose and allow
ourselves
to believe
to live
and to ultimately
more fully
become
be
and
either
know
we
are
or
not
