The Wasted Years

Did I waste the years and
hasten the ending
Did I close myself away
with the drinking when I
should have been, fence-
mending

Oft times we learn to late
what the consequences of
our selfishness will be
swiftly rendering

Tis funny how the way we
should be acting is reversed
We're born and fuck-up our
relations
How come it takes loss and
wisdom with aging to realize
the times been wasted

You looked me in the eyes with
tears and heart-cries trying to
amend but, all I heard was the
revving of the engine of my
Yamaha motor-bike and my friends
saying, "Let's load-up and ride,"
"Come on, Mother-fucker, we've got
the brew and the lines,"

So off we went with a nod from my
head, and to you, "We'll talk about
this later, in bed,"

But as empty as the words became,
so did the bed one day

Days gone by, wasted, with only me
to blame
