The five barred gate ( the Hut)

Cold so cold, cold as in my youth
in the lanes we knew so well without the city walls,
where horses ran for money on summer-days
Gymcrack, Rolls and Daimlers, Lanchester,
Austin Seven, Wolsey and eternal Rovers.
Here is cold so cold as in yesteryear
they have what we had; time, space and passion.
I watch, but should not, I stepped into this space
and call near once a week........
Fifty years divide us, yet we are one.
Unashamed I watch, join in their desires.....
another world, we too loved as they,.
This is not a cosy place, corrugated as it is,
lovers make of what they can, we leaned a five barred gate
to love beneath the moon....comfort is where you find it.
You are ghosts I know, loving here a while ago,
we shared a war and loved as you,
you joined in love as unprepared as we,
I shall not intrude....forget I ever called.
