I Confess

Forgive me Father for I have sinned
Its been o’ so long since my last
Confession
I have been impure in all things
I beg forgiveness from the almighty

I have stolen
A box of formula
For my hungry son
From the supermarket
Across the street

I have taken
A piece of cloth
From a stranger’s clothline
To wrap my child
In his cold nakedness

I have lied
To get a job
Saying I had a certificate
When all I had was street smart
But I needed to shelter my  son

I have used swear words
At the policemen who arrested me
To the social worker who took away my son
I was frightened and alone
Tell me Father, where was God then?
