Why I write poems to women
It is the instinct of this male
To praise a good-looking female
Whose looks and words made impression
To invite warmest expression.
This act of writing, one-for-one,
I perform with some affection.
I think it better for the health
To in this way express myself.
Lines may be short or even long,
But not long as Solomon’s Song!
What my brain, with my heart, does think
I pour out through my pen and ink.
With a Creator-like delight
I paint the “Eve” in black and white,
To leave her smiling, standing tall
Upon the paper pedestal.
To those I’ve honoured in this way
It often brightens up their day.
The workings of my sentiments
Elicit thanks for compliments.
