Love in the Dark

There was no serenade,
Because he was not amused,
In a tangled moment,
With a twisted mind,
Words plunged like daggers,
Bloody lava flowed,
Those mixed messages,
Lifting him so high,
Then releasing him,
To plummet & crash,
Is she the one?
His hope & dream,
A fantastic chimera,
Or another false dawn,
He teased & tortured,
Himself til blue,
Always thinking,
Until he knew nothing
His light lifted her,
His dark scared her,
He didn’t mean to,
But he couldn’t help it,
She tormented him,
And his soul pleaded,
But his faith was fallible,
He felt too much,
And his cup overflowed,
Thought he saw everything,
But wasn’t really looking,
Blinded by day dreams,
Ancient eyes long damaged,
Everything altered, disjointed,
Once simple, elegant truth,
Now complex composites,
Questing beyond to the brink,
Escaping from edginess to the edge,
Skeptically realizing impossible dreams,
Accompanied by dark nightmares,
Slowly spiraling into inane farce,
Sickened by sycophants & squeezers,
Trashy treasures & trite cliches,
Morphing into contagious disease,
Feverish with lust,
Incurably insane,
Green eyed & monstrous,
Comic, tragic,
Erratic, melancholic,
Enigmatic, eclectic,
Mystical, cynical,
He hated himself,
And adored kindness,
But despair grew like a germ,
He became bitter & tired,
Drugged & deliciously exotic,
Gourmet appetites insatiable,
Doomed to inevitable loss,
Fateful decline a daily decay,
Clear as brilliant epiphanies,
Life the slowest of deaths,
Clinging to contradictions,
Impossible futile quests,
She must be his exception
His angel to deliver him,
With her,
Worst could be best,
Night could become day,
With her,
He could just be,
No more pretending,
Without her,
Nothing ever existed
