Gone

In my chamber, on my chair
merrily pondering the day's affairs.
All is good and all is calm,
resting peacefully in my wonderful mansion.

The somber silence of my sleepy house is shattered.
A sound is heard, oh what a strange sound!
A creaking, a groaning, a stretching, a stirring!
Confused, I sit upright, the house is settling,
is settling is all, all is alright!

My desk lamps begins to flicker,
the groaning grows into a gruesome wail.
The walls shake, paintings and decorations fall and tear.
I sit, alone, amazed, frozen in my chair.

I fall upon my bottom as the chair collapses!
The floor is shuddering, shrieking now, shrieking!
I climb to my feet, cling close to my desk,
which too collapses! The wood rots and breaks away
in front of my wide, unbelieving eyes!

What is happening in this madhouse!
Furniture falling apart,
metal fixtures corrode in seconds and fall to the floor!
The carpet tears and curls away from the walls and the door.

A terrible pain in my heart, my foot falls through the floor!
I'm stuck, rooted into the sheer madness of it all.
The house is alive, shrieking, crying, ripping itself apart!
My intense screams are drowned out by the house in the pain.
The room twists violently, window clutters out of it pane.

Mortified, petrified, terrified, I stare into
a mirror, with cracks that grow and splinter before my eyes!
Crashes, cracks and crumbles all around me.
The wooden floor splinters and weakens beneath my legs.

A small silence, a pause, then an almighty bang!
The wooden panels of the floor explode into the air!
I'm falling, falling with all my broken things.
Trapped, in this havoc of the unknown.
Fall upon my back in writhing agony.

The house completely disintegrates around me.
My clothes are now ragged tatters,
I find my feet and look around
to see only rubble, piling up and around.

And just like that,
through inexplicable circumstance,
it was all gone.
Gone today and gone the next,
all the things in life I thought the best.
