A thought
There’s always that thought we’d like to forget,
A distant memory, a mistake or regret.
Perhaps an old lover who made you upset,
Or a loyal companion, a runaway pet.
Is it an action, or something you said?
Perhaps a lie that you frequently led?
A family member that has long since been dead?
Does it keep you awake as you lie in your bed?
We all have that demon, perched in our mind,
A personal torture we’ve all been assigned.
As hard as you try, you can’t leave it behind,
But that isn’t bad as you will soon find.
The torment is brings, the crippling pain,
Is just what we need to keep ourselves sane.
So learn from that thought, so it’s not in vain.
Make it a gift, instead of a chain.
