daydreams on the tides
I can only think of you in daydreams
recreating days that never happened
because I wasn’t there to lift
the shadows from your eyelids
And I can’t forget all the things
I did wrong
every careless word exhaled
without a thought to how the universe would translate it
into your fragile ears
that shattered like glass into your mind
unknown to my sightless eyes
And I don’t know if you knew
the things I always said, but never said
with my soul
like a dance your soul would understand
calling to you through the death whispers
of the demons you courted
I can still hear your voice calling to me on the wind
as I wander streets at midday
sea salt on my lips and sand in my shoes
because I spend too many hours
standing at the edge of the ocean
wondering if I’ll find you out there
amongst the waves
as beautiful as you always were
before the tide took you away
