Red Lion’s Ire

- Red Lion’s Ire -

When the rains came down over gray rocks,
And the knights in their armor bright arrayed…
Could not withstand, either steel or dragon fire:
And withered on their belts were maiden locks.
It was then that fear, upon bold hearts preyed,
For they dared to cross the Red Lion’s hot ire.
The Lion had lain with the Dragon, long before…
And when the knights of their rivals came to bear,
The ravens feasted well, upon bones of the slain!
But the Red Lion and the Dragon wanted more,
So countless kingdoms, their banners did share.
But the blood of the fallen left long, scarlet stain!

Blood on the snow, blood in the forests dark…
And none now live who know the songs of old,
Sung by they who fought and died, proud in glory.
And the rains came down over lands most stark,
Where hot blooded men perished in ice so cold!
Only dragons remember, out of a long lost story,
And they cannot tell, for none recall their tongue.
Who speaks to dragons; who knows their names?
I am Lion-born, and in my blood beats the song,
My heart remembers, and when the day is done…
I sing like a dragon and I walk through the flames!
The fallen are no more, their dust faded ere long.

When the thunder is in the heavens, roaring loud,
The Lion roars within me, and I know the history.
Secret things thought lost to ages now uncounted!
You, who walk beneath my banner, walk proud…
For as the rain pours down, you share a company,
Where mirthful laughter and regal dignity founded:
True nobility of spirit, and a will never conquered.
For it is a will of iron, forged in dragon fires raging!
The Red Lion’s ire had given way to, much more…
And the knights of old never once, this pondered,
When they went a warring, and for gold, foraging.
The rains never told them, when they hit the shore!
