Swan Song
I have lived many years
Through all the cheers and jeers.
I have seen and done it all
I have risen and lived the fall
Beauty has been mine to behold
I have seen holocausts unfold
But I am empty
A lost penny
I have done such wrong
I sing my Swan Song
I have lived and been loved
I have pushed and been shoved
And I have resisted
And I have insisted
That you would just permit
Me to live like a hermit
And I am alone
I’m just skin and bone
Where did I go wrong?
Sing me my Swan Song
All that I have seen
Will fade now
This is the last day
I’ll ever see
Drink down the emerald poison
(Drink down the sugared death)
Toast it all for me
Raise the goblet in my memory
(The crystal has turned emerald)
And then let me leave
Go to join my family
And to greet them formally
But will they embrace me?
Or will they erase me?
I walk towards the sight
Myself dimming their light
Am I now at home?
Or am I free to roam?
How do I do it wrong?
Just to sing my Swan Song
Through all the cheers and jeers.
I have seen and done it all
I have risen and lived the fall
Beauty has been mine to behold
I have seen holocausts unfold
But I am empty
A lost penny
I have done such wrong
I sing my Swan Song
I have lived and been loved
I have pushed and been shoved
And I have resisted
And I have insisted
That you would just permit
Me to live like a hermit
And I am alone
I’m just skin and bone
Where did I go wrong?
Sing me my Swan Song
All that I have seen
Will fade now
This is the last day
I’ll ever see
Drink down the emerald poison
(Drink down the sugared death)
Toast it all for me
Raise the goblet in my memory
(The crystal has turned emerald)
And then let me leave
Go to join my family
And to greet them formally
But will they embrace me?
Or will they erase me?
I walk towards the sight
Myself dimming their light
Am I now at home?
Or am I free to roam?
How do I do it wrong?
Just to sing my Swan Song
