I must sleep now, my head hurts!
What is the condition of the human heart
does it reflect the the creator
defined as love?
How is it that one must pay
for instruments of brutality
sometimes stupefying sums
and yet the guy at the airport
can't give away hugs
free is their cost
incalculable is their worth
Why is that we are told
that the US Navy is a force for worldwide good
between quarters of a game
where people are praised for beating
one another up
And yet people marching
against GMOs in the food supply
are ignored and lambasted
on airwaves that are supposed
to be owned by the people
yet packaged by cable companies
racking in beaucoup bucks
Why I am told about every place where
Justin Bieber or Charles Barkley decided to spit
unmentioned is the daily occurrence
of the Dalai Lama's humor and wit
So I will try in my little inch of the world
if only one person I can so touch
to make a smile appear as we pass
that smile multiplied may do much
does it reflect the the creator
defined as love?
How is it that one must pay
for instruments of brutality
sometimes stupefying sums
and yet the guy at the airport
can't give away hugs
free is their cost
incalculable is their worth

Thanks; the fuel for this one was an "interesting" comment about an earlier poem.

Ah, non. Stupidity is universal. But we must counter it where we can. There is a local band that wrote a song about a man whose corn crop was infiltrated by pollen from genetically altered crops. He was destroyed when the corporation that produced the GM crop sued him for stealing their proprietary genomes. Such is the way of our world these days.
And the Dalai Lama is the world's most incredible person. I have heard him speak and wished I could have brought him home.

Jazz
You make political points very digestible
Now if only the people who caused the
problems would read you

Kitty, that is kind of you to say but I fear that it is going to take events more explicit then writing a poem for the people who caused the problems to feel remorse, let alone change.

Your on the mark point about what people think is important harkens back to that timeless debate; do we chastise the media or the people who "eat" it up? (that idea that is nobody watches, the content will change)
I may have already mentioned this but i had two Communication professors who wrote a book, "The Question of Pornography". They testified before Congress while Reagan was president. His Attorney General, Edwin Messe formed a commission that produced a 960 page report on the subject. What the professors were saying, based on research that I took part in, is that exposure to JUST porn does not lead to violence; it is the presence of violence that is problematic. There testimony, I would like to believe led to a wider use of content analysis which came to that shocking conclusion that the most violent time of day is when cartoons are on.
I don't think the Messe Report used much of the professors' work; however at least it insisted that warrants be used by state and local law enforcement agencies.

Well thank you Milkimoondancer! I am sure I put many things on DUP that may be considered rants, so I am happy to know that you don't consider this one!

Ironically, much value is always placed on the valueless things in this world of confusion. Thanks for sharing.
