Worms

They wriggle and writhe
in the shade upon a bed of peat.
a humble mattress soft and warm
leaves for sheets, mosses for a pillow;
see them careless in their bliss
 two tied in ecstasy
Daphnis and Chloe, dreamed as these
paled in their delight. . . . . . . .

No marble halls for these
Humility their daily  task
Scorn their sole reward
Yet in the bowels of deep earth
Omnipresent and omnificent.
