No need of Shadows
Do not contrive the rose
beauty not to be confined,
wild as springtime fauns.
Leave her to the morning sun
before you wake or dream of her;
see shadows on the wall
pink fine hairs and soft,
merging with the poppy in its frame.
Early breezes gentle of their purpose
slow silhouettes filled with promise;
throw back the sheets in welcome.
blackbirds sleeping late
wait the sun to warm tiles.
Open wide window and,reach your hand
persuade her to your bed,
unfolding petals, each and slow,
watch them in the growing light,
ignore the blackbird's call,
close the curtains,
tight the window panes,
no need of shadows on the wall.
