Waking Dream

I am lost for words
which seem vain
against your beauty,
bright eyes frank and dark
only a smile on your lips
can confirm and soon.
Say those words
I long to hear
whisper soft and low,
shivers down my spine
long since forgot.
Are we fools to love ?
No! think not so,
we know the worth
of what we have,
assay is all we can,
hold the precious gift,
believe in nature’s fortune
and question not.
Believe in each.
Love half so sweet
would be enough,
love like this. . . .
a waking dream.
