The Lavender Hedge

Humming bees and hover-flies,
grey green leaves beneath the blue
somnolent in the morning,
healing balm of sleepy pillow,
soothing 'kerchief, honey in a jar.
Unsophisticated perfume
defending us against the moth
that we can sleep assured,
subduing lusty thoughts
making nights for sleeping;
Eros resting with his bow.
