Family Style Should Rub Off On Us All

"One night while sleeping in my bed I had a beautiful dream
That all the people of the world got together on the same wavelength
And began helping one another
Now in this dream, universal love was the theme of the day
Peace and understanding and it happened this way"

Will we ever be done with war
a student asked me just the other day
wasn't sure how to answer such a profound question
with all the strife and turmoil that today is in play
so I told him about my dream

"The sick, the hungry, had smiles on their faces
The tired and the homeless had family all around
The streets and the cities were all beautiful places
And the walls came tumblin' down"

Then I said "oh yes it is possible when it is accepted
that via true peacemaking there is strength
and that our common bonds are recognize
not keeping strangers always at arm's length"

"People of the world all had it together
Had it together for the boys and the girls
And the children of the world look forward to a future
Remember
Tick tock, tick tock, tick tock people, time's tickin' away"

First lets look at what we call sports
all the focus on competitive fire
battle of conquests and demoralizing the foe
how in this climate do we expect hatred to retire

Not that competition can be eliminated
but rather turn the focus around
not the emphasis on bloody conquest
mashing all opponents into the ground

"I had a vision of blue skies from sea to shining sea
All the trees in the forest stood strong and tall again
Everything was clean and pretty and safe for you and me
The worst of enemies became the best of friends"

A famous cat once told us you
"can't simultaneously prevent and prepare for war"
in these days like when Bush invaded Iraq
we were lied as to what the fighting was even for

We institutions run amuck
the check and balances like leaves in the dust
human capital and exchanges of tolerance
trampled and left to rust

The CIA we could do without
expenditures classified is that democracy
another name for it with the color of dollar signs
with greed being the striking legacy

Just remember the
"tick tock, tick tock, tick tock people, time's tickin' away"
