Forever Isn't As Long As It Use to Be

I thought best friends meant forever
I thought any storm we could weather
But I guess forever
Isn't as long as it use to be
I thought,at least you,would keep a promise to me
I remember every day we hung out
Our private jokes
And every secret we spoke
Guess forever isn't as long as it use to be
We entered highschool
And things began to change
I think,in the beginning
I pretended they stayed the same.
I was so caught up in our pretend game
That I didn't notice
The person you had become
Our fights came more often
And every harsh word
Neither tried to soften
I think then
I finally realized
How much we had changed
And I was ashamed
Of the person you had became
You were the dark side of things
The shit I stayed away from
After one of our usual fights
I finally realized
My heart was right
I cannot change
Who you are
It is your life
But don't expect me to pick you up off the floor
Like I've done so many times before
So today
I say my goodbye
And you pretend not to notice
The tears in my eye
Because,you think
I'll walk right back in the door
This time,this time my friend
I am gone
Best friends forever
We should've been best friends never
