Singing for the dawn

I heard the skylarks
high they sang and loud;
heard the song of hope,
chaffinch and the dove
in the May-time shower;
the blackbird's vigil through
night's dark hour,‘til dawn
will guard us all from harm.
watching all who listen,
Hear him on the eaves
singing for the dawn
he knows will come,
when night's dark hour fades.
