The Skylark

I heard him long before I saw,
Heard him chatter to the morning sun
Who smiling listened.....
Neither shared their secrets
I could only guess.
It was early,at least for me,
But breakfast had
Been cooked for me
No need to hunt for food.
Both had seen the dawn
The buzzing bee and fly
Soaring kite and hawk.
The owl was back in bed....
(Leave the mice to roam
Fattening for supper.)
The day stretched out,
Seemed long..............
I had no plans to speak of.....
Leave time to count the hours.
