INTO THE FLAMES

Staring at you from the backseat.
Only the most brilliant light hits you,it seems.
You sing along with the radio voice,
and laugh with your friend, when you can't hit the notes.
You warned I may be too quiet for you.
I smiled a bit,for you'd be scared of the truth.
Reached back your hands to take hold of mine,
and asked me to look after you for the night.
The fire was blue,in the depth of your eyes.
You made all the heads turn, like you do every time.
I followed that laugh, when looking for you,
like emotional confetti thrown over the room.
Scripture tattooed every inch of your arm,
The one that held your drink, the same one with the scars.
Never lost your beauty, even fall down drunk.
I don't care that you were, when you first mentioned love.
She danced to the songs I would sing from the stage.
Like slow motion sex,I just can't look away.
I still see you dancing, but the others are gone,
in my head it's just you,as the crowd, all alone.
I may focus on the thought of you a bit too much,
but death is far from closure, and your soul, death touched.
The last words I ever said to your face still haunt.
They echo in the sleep, that I get when I want.
"If the world was burning,I'd be more than fine.
As long as we watched it by each other's side."
Well the flames are really rising in the world I'm in,
and smoke has replaced much needed oxygen.
No matter if I wait,or throw myself in the fire.
It hurts all the same, when you're burning alive.
